Written as a response to seeing the artists sculptures 'speaking' across the landscape and reading an enlightening review in a magazine
A man stood on a mountain side
Looked out at the world and said:
‘Look at me:
I am.
I stand on the arĂȘte and
Symbolise ‘it’
A hole in the
ether,
A
presence in existence.
I am iron
I am representation
I am freedom from
the stereotype.
Look at me
Standing bare
Clothed in cling-film
Plastered, enfolded, transformed....
I am.
I exist.
I communicate.
Do you hear me?
The waves lap at my feet
The snow drifts at my knees
And people stare at my stance
My motionless
My
lacking in breath-
Yet they buy the story
The philosophy
The presence of my being.
I am the iron man
I am Antony Gormley.’
