I lie on my back
In the cooling pool,
Squinting at the
Floured, azure sky.
Listening to the rippling leaves
Tugging at the stubborn trees
I welcome the warm winds
Wrapping me in their embrace.
I relish the
sweat dripping,
Eyes squinting,
Skin smarting
From the burn.
The burn! The burn!
I am on holiday!
The open space of a stranger’s land
Offers freedom from attachment,
The comfort of companionship
The comfort of companionship
Yet the loneliness of distance,
And the acknowledgement of
A return –
Refreshed,
Renewed,
Expectant.
