People and events have triggered my emotions which expressed themselves in poetic form, not in any regular formal tradition more as an expression of ideas or feelings. The pattern of the poems came from the sound of the words in my mind not from any formal poetic arrangement. Ged

I Nearly Had a Little Brother

I nearly had a little brother!
Yes, I nearly had a little brother
Who wasn’t as big as I
But Daddy didn’t want him
To gaze upon the sky.

I nearly had a little brother!
I nearly had a little brother
Who’d whimper soft and low
But Mam and dad just
 Wouldn’t let him grow.

I nearly had a little brother
Who’d be smart and bright and funny
But Mam and dad decided
He’d cost far, far
Too much money.

I nearly had a little brother!
Yes, I nearly had a little brother
Who wasn’t as tall as me
But Mammy didn’t want him
 Laughing and running free

I nearly had a little brother
But Mam and dad got bored
They’d had more than enough of me
So they got a man
 To cut his little cord.

I nearly had a little brother
Who’d talk and talk
 And talk
But they cut off his little legs
So he’d never ever walk.

I nearly had a little brother
Who’d be as mucky as a pup
But Daddy told the doctor
It was time to
Cut him up.

I nearly had a little brother
Who could run and dance and shout
But they took him to the hospital
Where a nurse
Sucked him out.

I nearly had a little brother
Who’d always be around
But because he was chopped up small
His body makes no sound.

I nearly had a little brother
To fight with and win!
But I never got the chance to boast,
Because the man
Dropped him in a bin

I nearly had a little brother
Well...
