Small in stature yet majestic
A prince of mountains writ small.
A ‘grand climb’ snubbed by the high court,
The regal peers, in snow dusted cowls
Who look down in distain.
To the west, a dappled view remarked
With a history of man’s toil and blood,
And my grandfather’s bones lying
Deep in the red earth
Cold, yet remembered.
This royal western fell echoing the crawk
Of the carrion crow,
And the rustle of herdwicks
Minding their own,
Stands proud
Cogra suppliant at his feet.
