Seker's Mill

A word image which grew out of a photo image of a derelict factory, posted on the Darkblonde's blog. This was once a landmark building of the busy firm Sekers, making fabrics for the world market.

The cracked fascia adorns the dereliction
Of a drawn beauty
As the mind’s eye smears
The dust-rust litter to
Catch the eye of the mind.
The image- smeared as a sensual act,
A record of industrial beauty,
Of a work well done-
     Records for some
Memories of the dignity of sweat,
The warmth of camaraderie
Or the cruel cut of the tongue.

A drawn beauty
Remarks the desolate present
Yet, at the same time
Records the heart in the past.
Look beyond the asbestos,
Beyond the bricks and concrete
Or the pools reflecting the sun.
