Grey Skies

Thoughts on a grey day after hearing I have a cancer.

Grey Skies

Grey skies, grey seas
Endless in monotony
Broken by the laughter
And the giggles
Of drip-drenched
Children echoing
The white-crested
Smile of the rollers.
Wind brave strollers
Alone and hand-in-hand,
And dog mocked walkers,
Head down,
Puddle-jumping without
The joy of youth,
Are warmed by the
Layers of woollies,
Stupid hats and
Moist gloves,
And inside by the
Freedom of the February air.

I lean into the wind,
Lean into life:
Press on breath-by-breath,
     Living the now
Not to be submerged
In self-pity: the threat of big C,
But to rise to living,
Enriching another day.
